@FrankZZ I know this PR is old, but I'm curious, in the event NPM goes down and the metadata isn't cached, wouldn't that cause npm-proxy-cache to stop working?

It would cause issues for packages that weren't cache - otherwise it has no source of this information. It's either a cache or real data from npm.
