I disagree; when I use gu, I want to be directed to the page at the level above in the URL hierarchy, not to a different point on the same page.

There is probably value in having a command that strips the hash off an URL, though.

2gu would do that. Quick, and easy.

But we have no quick and easy way to strip off the anchor (do we?).

Well, perhaps:

• Ctrl-L, Right-Arrow, Ctrl-Delete (however many times it's needed), Delete, Enter

But you have to check the URL in the address bar to check whether you're going up one level or two. We're making something that was previously intuitive into a pain. Just give it it's own command.

Also, ge, Ctrl-Bksp (as many times as needed), Bksp, Enter does the same.
