Split log files over time

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Right now some log files can get quite big if not looked after. Primarily server logs.

Describe the solution you'd like

• We could introduce log files by date and have a rough maximum size after which it creates another log file with a postfix.
• Add settings to control the split behavior, such as:
  • Interval, should you want to split more/less often than a day
  • Maximum size, after which it creates a new log file for the date and if already exists, adds a postfix before extension for example
  • Log file count after which it purges starting from the oldest log file of that type

Additional context
This behavior should be universal across client and server logs, along with the settings.

For me, after rotation, the server just continues writing logs in the same file. Now it writes the logs in server.log.1, not into server.log.
Is this a config issue, or this is normal?

To close this issue:

• For Linux I think we should stick with (and improve support for) logrotate(8).

• For Windows...

  1. we can either document and recommend a specific logrotate(8) clone (+ write any additional support, if necessary)
  2. or implement our own inbuilt log rotation (for Windows only?)

  I prefer the first option.

It need to investigate for more detail.

Last time when I used logrotate i had a bug.
There were file server.log logrotate copied it to server.log.1 and cleared serer.log. But after it MTA stopped to write anything in server.log I don't know why. Next time I tested it manually and it worked well.
