Updating a Fill color removes any Fill image

Describe the bug
Using the Fill panel, after adding a background image, if you try to change the background color it removes the image. However if you do the color first and then the image it keeps both.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Draw a shape
2. Fill with a color
3. Fill with a image (image retains background color as expected)
4. Switch back to color to change the background
5. Image resets and must be entered again

Expected behavior
Images and Backgrounds should be manageable independently of each other as both can exist peacefully together.

Hey, thanks for reporting this one.

So far, we've actually considered this a feature 😅 The thinking here is that you can choose one or the other. I wanted to keep it simple, since I don't anticipate people needing both simultaneously. I know CSS supports both, but I couldn't think of many scenarios where you would actually need both, to justify adding complexity to the fill panel.

Would this block you from building certain designs? Could you provide some more info on why you'd like this feature?

@colmtuite I'm less of a designer, and more of a developer… I regularly use background images with a background colour although I'll struggle to come up with a killer argument for it that doesn't sound contrived or like an edge case.

Sometimes it's as simple has having a coloured box that then has semi-transparent gradient image or similar over the top - this is useful for theming in some scenarios where you want some sort of pattern or texture but the colour can change.

I suppose in a lot of ways the reason for this is usually some little trick or hack to achieve a certain look in an efficient way… but is probably a feature that appeals more to a developer than a designer.

I think as Modulz supports the "contain" property for background images in the UI, this is accepting that you might have a shape that is bigger than it's background-image, and with that I think it might come up that people want, or at least wonder why they can't, fill that space around the image with a colour… and then when you factor in that it can be done, if you set the colour first and then the image, it seems like it's a bug that if you then try to change the colour the image disappears.
