Can we enable discussions? Also, I'll push an HTTP transport fix

I've been trying to get the HTTP transports to work, and I have some incremental fixes I can push on Monday for a PR review-- some gotchas that appear to have slipped through the cracks.

But just to make sure -- the HTTP transports aren't working for anyone else, are they? (better for a discussion than an issue)
