Mac Finder — Demo Version

Author: Junaid Abid
Version: Demo (October 2025)
Type: Offline single-file HTML forensic reference tool
Platform: All devices (macOS, Windows, Linux, and mobile browsers)

Overview

Mac Finder is a standalone HTML forensic utility developed to assist digital forensic practitioners in identifying Apple Mac hardware models, determining chipset types (Intel, T-Series, Apple Silicon, and PowerPC), and providing appropriate acquisition procedures.

This demo release replicates the full application experience using a limited embedded dataset. It is provided for demonstration and educational use.
The full version includes a complete dataset covering all supported chipsets and models, with expanded workflow logic designed specifically for forensic environments.

Key Features

  • Search by model name, identifier, or A-number (for example, A2338)
  • Automatic detection of chipset and T-Series status
  • Guidance on removable or soldered storage types
  • Correct boot steps for Cellebrite Digital Collector and similar tools
  • Cautions for iMac disassembly and T2 security configuration
  • Duplicate and multi-number model detection with relevant warnings
  • Fully offline operation with no external dependencies
  • Works on any device using a modern web browser

Forensic Cautions

Apple Silicon devices feature integrated storage, so physical removal is not practical.
Use Digital Collector (ARM) workflows, logical acquisition, or live preview imaging instead.
For Intel systems with T2 security, adjust Secure Boot and External Boot permissions as required, and record all changes in line with your procedure.

Example Use

  1. Open mac-finder-demo.html in any modern browser (Safari, Chrome, Edge, or Firefox).
  2. Search for a model such as A2338 or MacBookPro17,1.
  3. Review the chipset, storage guidance, and boot instructions displayed.

This tool operates entirely offline, making it suitable for secure lab and air-gapped forensic environments.
