Puttin IO pins on top/bottom of custom circuit?

I'm wondering if there's any way to put I/O pins on the top or bottom edge of a "standard" custom component, without needing to go the SVG route. I thought I saw in some video that if they are rotated to a vertical orientation on the schematic, it'll have that effect, but I'm not seeing it happen.

If SVG is the only route, that's fine, but I was hoping for an easier route. Thanks.

If the layout shape is used, the orientation of the inputs and outputs determines the position of the pins.
