f_The Three Colour System
A Tripartite Selection System Designed for Effective HTML Management
Return to 'Why the Shift Key? Why the Caps Lock?'
The three colour system might sound complicated or difficult to understand but, it's actually the reverse of that. It makes it really simple and easy to understand. Do you know why? It's because there are only three groups.
That's right, there are only three.
- Pink
- Grey
- Blue
Every object is a member of one and only one of those colour groups. So, if it's blue, it is only in the blue group and isn't in the grey or pink group. It's actually the simplest that the system can possibly be. You can change the colour of the objects from the keyboard but, probably the best way to change them is to just paint them with the mouse.
Start by pressing the T
key. It doesn't matter whether the caps lock is on or off for this.
Then you must hold down either shift
, ctrl
, or ctrl+shift
and then drag with the mouse over the parts you want to colour.

It's an integral part of the project as a whole, and I would even say that the project is founded on it as one of the basic precepts. It's like a prinicple idea of the project. Just to give a better idea of how this concept is used: Just think of it like this, when we do even the simplest thing, for example moving a part on the screen, we can either move just one part, all alone. Or, we can choose to move the whole colour group with that part. To do this we must hold down the shift key
.
The same idea flows across just about everything: If we are in style mode(with the caps lock off) then we can apply a background colour to the entire colour group by using shift + B
instead of just B
.
The best part is that it's really easy to explain how it works!
Good thing, because it's less work for me in writing this wiki.
