This change resolves a lack of support for passing a function to the updateModel (previously handleUpdateModel) dispatch function in the DesignerApi logic that keeps instance state in sync with the React state.

Also, the npm scripts were made OS-agnostic by adding cross-env to the NODE_ENV assignments (and to the project dependencies).
