Auto filled query when field come with a default value

Summary
In my scenario i have a field that may or may not be filled, e.g:

The problem is when i click in the field with the default value is make a full request without considering the default value, e.g:

When i pass the mouse in any options inside dropdown the default value is cleared, e.g.

Has any way to pass a default value to the first time or this is a new feature?

I found a solution, the search.autocomplete.setVal(inputValue); works.
