I don't like finnicking with making subtags for my projects too much because I find them hard to manage easily on mobile (where I do most of my work), but I am currently working on a project where I am frequently organizing and reorganizing to figure out the most optimal method/perspective for the notes relating to this project to be set up/thought about.
As a long time habit of mine I write square bracket labels at the end of the title of every note I make that is connected to a larger project to say which project it's from so that if I add a note from Project A to the tag of Project B to use for reference I can immediately tell them apart even if they have otherwise similar titles and purposes for their respective project.
I've experimented with Smart Views a little recently in case it may help with my current project's organizational woes and I really like how I can set it up to show everything with a set term written in the title, meaning I can effectively tag notes using words in the title rather then manually tagging them with the not-so-great mobile tagging interface to have them appear or not appear as wanted.
This integrates well with my already existing idea of writing project information in the title, and I can see myself basically expanding that idea in conjunction with this tool to great effect for quick and easy organizing.
However, because all Smart Views are placed at the top all the way above my neat and tidy well thought-out tag layout as a simple alphabetical list, making as heavy use of them as I would like to would be far messier then I'd be happy with.
It would help alot if this pre-existing system could be integrated into my tag layout (or "Folders" section of the sidebar according to the mobile app) so that I can make use of my skills in intentional design to have Smart Views be put in logical places per project.
I also suggest that Smart Views done as subtags only search through the tag it is a subtag of (or perhaps all/only ones it is hierarchically connected to) as to make it more intuitive to a user why there would be both the Smart Views at the top (which searches everything) and also subtag Smart Views outside of keeping things tidy.
I say this because I like having Smart Views which are not subtags, it's just helpful for fewer things for me than this suggestion is. Perhaps they could be integrated fully into the same section but only Smart Tags created as top level tags with nothing above them hierarchically act as they do by default currently?
Another thought on subtag Smart Views would be to have Smart Tags be able to be set to only search through set tags and choose default set tags to only include the tag the subtag Smark View is make to be placed under hierarchically (whether that should be all of the ones its connected to or just the one, I don't know).
That way a Smart View could be placed hierarchically below a tag for organizational purposes and be able to search through the contents of all tags or only set tags that happen to include tags it is not hierarchically connected to.
Sorry for the long note.
I so much out of my love for the project.
All the best, longtime user
Nicolete
