Is there a way to write a custom plugins for vscode-mssql?

I have very restricted rules what I can do with SQL server. Therefore, there are only the following allowed operations:

• Read-only querying specific set of tables
• Reconstruct queries by some rules
• some other

It's done, now I want to avoid writing queries as "in notepad" mode and instead want to embed this functionality into some editor that has good support for syntax highlighting and similar SQL related features. Wondering whether it's possible here?
