If you see “Copilot for free” in your profile, that’s expected for GitHub Education users. The Education pack gives you free access to the standard GitHub Copilot plan, but it doesn’t include Copilot Pro (the paid tier with extra features like GPT-4o and Office/JetBrains integrations). |

Currently, GitHub Copilot Pro is not included in the free Education benefits. The free plan provides standard GitHub Copilot access, but Copilot Pro (which includes additional premium features) requires a paid subscription. @Pg1910, this is totally inaccurate. GitHub Copilot PRO is included in GitHub Education benefits. You can verify this on the GitHub's Student Developer Pack offers page 
The message "you are using Copilot for free" means that you are using the GitHub Copilot Free tier. The Student Developer Pack offers the PRO tier, which can be claimed on this signup link once benefits become available. This is what you should see in your Copilot settings:
