Support Codex CLI as API Provider

• If someone has ChatGPT Plus or Pro, they can use Codex CLI with their subscription. Reference
• Support "Codex CLI" as API Provider just like how "Claude Code" is currently present as an API Provider
• There is already "OpenAI" as an API Provider but that works with API Keys. I am looking for a feature where Roo Code supports "Codex CLI" and people can use their regular ChatGPT subscription for coding as well

Seems like when you are codex login it generates a token at ~/.codex/auth.json. The token has OPENAI_API_KEY in it. Perhaps we can use this somehow.

according to their commit changes, the OPENAI_API_KEY is a fallback.. that probably cause additional costs outside of ChatGPT Pro/Plus.

+1 you might want to look into this fork of codex cli that adds some nice features on top, the stock codex doesn’t support custom slash commands for example

I vote for this too. I use codex CLI on private projects just not to pay for each API call. I use Roo Code only at work where the company pays for it 👿 But would really like to use it on private projects via Roo Code.

I created a proxy server that acts as an adapter that provides Anthropic compatible API for OpenAI endpoints.
My purpose was to use gpt-codex models on Claude Code.
Once I completed the project and did the testing, it didn't work. I tried many fixes but then did a bit research.
Found this issue:
openai/codex#3376

Meaning, you can only use custom instructions with API key. If you use oauth subscription, you can only use codex instructions.
Which sucks.
