As many of you may have seen in recent news, GitHub’s CEO, Thomas Dohmke, has announced his resignation, and Microsoft has reorganized GitHub under its broader AI and Azure strategy. According to multiple reports, GitHub’s independence within Microsoft is now significantly reduced, with more direct oversight from Microsoft’s AI and developer divisions.
Given these changes, we are concerned that GitHub may increasingly serve Microsoft’s strategic goals—particularly AI integration and Azure promotion—rather than remaining a neutral, developer-first platform. In order to preserve the integrity, independence, and long-term stability of our community, we are considering:
Discontinuing the use of GitHub Discussions as our community forum.
Phasing out active code hosting on GitHub.
We may migrate in the near future to a self-hosted community platform, as well as a self-hosted GitLab instance for code hosting and collaboration.
Before making any final decisions, we would like to hear your feedback and perspectives.
